Google Merchant Shopping — AI-Driven Merchant Signals
In 2024, I joined Google’s Merchant UX team to drive the vision for Merchant Knowledge and Emerging Signal products. I led design for key initiatives—including Trending, Similar Brands, Distinctive Attributes, New Arrivals, and Emerging Trends—creating a unified framework for how merchants understand and showcase their products. All proposals were approved and transitioned into development, establishing core components of Google’s future merchant experience.
In This project, I designed a brand similarity model that synthesizes shopping signals and merchant knowledge to map relationships between brands. The model uncovers how brands cluster based on consumer perception and shared characteristics, enabling higher-quality recommendations, smarter merchant insights, and more intuitive shopping experiences across Google. New Arrivals delivers a strategic freshness framework that surfaces newly released products and future freshness-based annotations at key points in the shopping journey. The experience enriches merchant representation, keeps brand profiles dynamic and up-to-date, and strengthens user engagement by helping shoppers quickly understand what’s new and relevant. Time-based product intelligence is foundational to building relevant, high-intent shopping journeys. With Emerging Content, we developed a framework that interprets time-based product signals to reveal how products align with real-world contexts and moments. This unlocks deeper merchant insight and creates more dynamic, timely experiences for shoppers. (Apr 2025)
